2020 Make Smoking History Karri Rally

The 2020 Make Smoking History Karri Rally will see competitors contest the State Rally Championship and Clubman Cup on two courses located in the beautiful State Forest in Nyamup, east of Manjimup on October 3. The event will be the third and penultimate round of the Western Australian Rally Championship.

Clerk of Course Neil Trethowen said the Karri Rally is one of the fastest rallies in the State Rally Championship calendar.
“History shows that Karri Rally is a very fast rally,” said Trethowen. “This year we have two high-speed stages in-store – one approximately 22 kilometres long and the other 16 kilometres. We ran these stages last year, and it will be interesting to compare the field’s times from this year to last.

“They are fantastic rally stages. I am a little envious that I’m not out there running, but I’ll be experiencing it vicariously through my co-driver Danielle Turton, who will be teaming up with her son for this event while I’m on Clerk of Course duties.

“There won’t be a spectator point on course this year, but the public is welcome to the service park in Manjimup to see the competitive cars gathered there.
“We are a COVID-19 aware event, so we kindly ask that the public and competitors observe the health recommendations regarding social distancing and hygiene on the event.”

The round comprises of two courses each run three times for State Championship competitors equating to 116 competitive kilometres. While Clubman Cup competitors will battle over a shortened number of stages.
Neil Trethowen said that organisers again experienced tremendous support from the Manjimup region for the event.
“The rally is held in picturesque forestry land which we’d like to thank the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions for granting us access to,” said Trethowen. “We’d also like to thank the Manjiump community who always make the event feel welcome and the Manjimup police for the assistance they give us.”

Organisers are also still looking for officials to help with road closures and other event duties. To register as a competitor or official, please see the website www.rallywa.com.
